Home Solar Power

If you
are fed up with high energy costs or want to
help the environment, consider home solar
power. Home solar power has recently been
receiving increased attention, and for good
reason.
A home solar power system involves the
installation of solar panels on the roof of
your home. They work by converting the sun’s
energy into electricity suitable for running
the electrical devices in your home, such as
your TV, refrigerator, and
computer.

Besides solar panels for running
electrical devices, home solar power also includes devices
to heat your hot water, your pool, or even your home. Other
choices include solar powered lights for your garden or
walkway, which use photovoltaic cells on top of the actual
light fixture. After you install a solar
power system, you will not have to rely on the power company
for all of your power, saving you money. Your electricity
costs will be substantially reduced.
The amount of energy you may still need
from the utility company depends on how many solar panels
you install, as well your family’s power needs. As a result,
it is difficult to calculate your exact savings once you
install a home solar power system.
Essentially,
once you recoup your investment in the solar power system,
you will be drawing free power from the solar
system.
When considering home solar power, keep in
mind that you don’t have to go completely “off the grid.”
That is, you don’t have to choose between solar power and
conventional energy sources, such as those offered though
your local electric company. Although solar panels work on
both sunny days and cloudy days (albeit with reduced
output), they do not work when the sun goes down. Some
systems are designed to store energy during the day to be
used at night; others require you to switch to an
alternative power source, such as that provided by your
utility company, during nighttime hours. Plus, if you
produce excess power, you can often sell it back to the
power company. As a result, you can actually receive a check
instead of a bill every month.
Systems for home solar power have come
down in price substantially over the last few years.
Although there are do-it-yourself kits available, many
people choose to hire a professional company to install
solar power panels on their roof. Doing so will ensure that
your solar panels are as efficient as possible, and also
make you eligible for certain tax credits.
Relying on solar power for your home is a
good idea if you want to live in a more sustainable manner.
Solar power does not use up coal or fossil fuels, instead
relying on clean energy from the sun. This energy is
unlimited and free. Promote a greener and cleaner earth by
switching to home solar power.
Home solar power systems, besides being
environmentally friendly, are very low-maintenance. These
solar panels are corrosion and weather resistant, and should
last up to 40 years. All they need is periodic cleaning to
ensure that the sunlight is able to make it through to the
solar panel, making them ideal for households who do not
want to constantly perform maintenance on their power
systems.
