Build a Wind Generator
Home
If you’re looking for a way to help the
environment and your pocketbook, consider making your home
a wind generator home. A wind generator home uses a
wind turbine to generate some or all of its electricity,
while paying for itself and eventually making money for
you. It doesn't need to include the monster-sized
towers with blades bigger than a house that you see on the
plains of Texas. In fact, some models are perfect
for the roof of your house. A
wind generator home is a great way to
harness sustainable energy, and doesn't require you to
disconnect from your local utility grid. Quite the
opposite - you can make loads of money by supplying
it! You do not need to have a lot of wind to be able
to use a wind generator; wind generator homes are
currently using generators with that will begin to work
("cut in") at wind speeds as low as seven or eight miles
per hour.
Savings can range up to 80 percent of your
electric bill, depending on the turbine you choose, amount
of wind in your area, and your family’s monthly power usage.
Every kilowatt of energy you create using a wind generator
saves a kilowatt of energy on your electric
bill. You can either buy a setup for your wind
generator home pre-built and pay for professional
installation, or build a
wind generator yourself. Small models are
available for just a few hundred dollars, and the costs can
be lowered by building it yourself.
A wind generator home usually has a
turbine installed either on the roof or in the middle of a
large yard/field. If you do not have a large yard, you may
need a larger tower to catch the most wind possible; at
ground level, much of the wind will be shielded by adjacent
buildings. Although wind energy
has long been harnessed, it is only recently that wind
generators for home use have become widely available.
With a wind generator, homes can slash their energy bills
while helping the environment.
In a few cases, homeowners produce so much
wind energy on their property that they can actually sell
some back to the utility company, getting a check instead of
a bill each month. Although wind generators
are not usually well suited to homes on small urban lots,
rural homes can benefit greatly from a wind generator. If
your home is not reached by the power grid, for example, a
wind generator can supply 100% of your home’s electrical
needs, or be supplemented with other sustainable power
sources, such as solar energy.
Wind generators are a great way to reduce
your dependence on oil and coal-based energy sources. Wind
power is quickly becoming a viable alternative energy
source. Although you may believe that to have a
wind generator home, you need acres of land and a huge
turbine, small wind turbines can now fit into your backyard
almost unoticed, all while still helping the environment
and making you money. You don’t need a wind farm to be
able to create a wind generator
home.
